Tucson’s first Global Game Jam is now in the books! We’d like to thank everyone who showed up. It was a phenomenal time, and we had a great group with all skill levels. We had 4 groups making 4 separate games. You can see (and play!) the games up on the global game jam’s website here. This year’s theme was ‘Ritual!’ Vikings Vs. Goats A fun game with a smash brothers vibe, developed in Unity. Sword of Memory Made in Stencyl, this team brought together some great art and built a top-down game about a sword that slowly made you lose your memory....

This is a great presentation from Dave Taylor, who has worked for iD, Transmeta, and many other fun companies. Dave talks about how the game industry is horribly cruel to people who don’t ship games, and how to get it out the door. Since game jams are great ways to get focused on shipping, this video seemed timely. Enjoy!
As we get closer to Game Jam the registrations keep on trickling in! There is limited space so please register if you plan on attending! Additionally, you might have heard of this thing called an Oculus Rift. I’ve got an ‘old’ DK2 here that is available for jamming purposes. Want to get jamming on the Oculus and make a game using VR? Contact me at chris at enemy hideout dot com and I may be able to help you out! Why am I not jamming with this myself? Well first I am helping volunteer, second my Macbook Air is not a...
It was the last meeting of 2015 for us, and we had a great turnout! Thanks to everyone for showing up. We talked about some upcoming events, the upcoming game jam, and how to make games fast. While we don’t have any photos taken from the event, I do have the slides from my presentation available. Click here to download a PDF of the presentation. This sparked some great conversations about things such as the merits of different technologies (no holy wars thankfully). We had some new faces who came out and thanks to everyone new who decided to show...
Please come on by tomorrow! We’ll be talking about the upcoming Game Jam and tips on how to make games FAST. What tech do you need? And probably more important what DON’T you need? Come by and take part. http://www.meetup.com/Tucson-Indie-Game-Development-Meetup/events/227151887/

Lance Tipton then presented on Sound Design in Games. Lance showed the very cool sound fx and music he applied to the Mists of Pandaria Trailer for World of Warcraft. Here’s the trailer video utilizing his sound design:

Come join us at CoLab Workspace to talk about audio in games: This will be a short class on game audio basics. It will start with the basics of digital audio and how it works. Then cover some implementation concepts and best practices. We will discuss how to make sound FX, and even make some to put into a game. If there is time we can go into some procedural audio and FMod, which is the core audio engine used in Unity. Be sure to tell invite your friends and anyone else your think would be interested. I look...
