Tucson Game Developers Blog

Still kicking! Site migration in progress!

Hey all! We have been having some web site issues and the site has now been migrated to a new computer. Its looking a bit bare, and a few of the links are probably broken. For those of you on the Mailing List, you knew that there was a meeting tonight, and we had a great time eating cookies and checking out various cool projects.  We checked out Andrew’s Ludum Dare  entry which was really fun. We also checked out some of the latest jam games from the UA Game Dev group as well. Stay tuned as we improve the site,...

Global Game Jam 2017 Was Awesome!

Sorry for the extreme tardiness in this update, this post has been in the works for a while. The Global Game Jam turned out to be a great event this year, and I am glad to see so many people had a great time. We had a total of 34 people sign up, and 11 games were made. While I organized the jam, I loved the organic nature of how things Just Happened at the event: Thomas and Luca: thank you for general volunteering! Z: Thank you very much for donating so much food. Drew and Jeremy: I really appreciate your help in...

One week to Jammin'

Next week is the one and only Global Game Jam! Only one week to go to get your game on! We still have space for more artists, developers, and designers who might want to take part. For more information you can check out our Global Game Jam 2017 page here.

Global Game Jam Tucson Registration is Open!

Global Game Jam comes to Tucson on January 20th! This 48-hour long game making event will be an awesome experience. Last year we had a great time making games together, so we are doing it AGAIN. Come on down to the CoLab Workspace in Downtown Tucson and learn about game development by doing! Are you a musician? Artist? Programmer? Designer? All of the above? Join other like-minded people who love video games. Not sure where to start on making games? This is it! Click here to see the official Global Game Jam Tucson site here. No Meeting for October

I will be out of town again and so there will be no meetings for October. We will hopefully be having a November meeting, and I’ll post the event up shortly!

Monthly Meeting Reschedule: Now Sep. 29th

Apologies on the short notice but things have come up and none of the organizers can organize the Tuesday meetup this month. Instead of cancelling we will still be meeting on Thursday. Please come on by!

Meetup.com gone. Hello google groups! And coffee, tonight!

It may just be me, but it looks as though the meetup.com group is either broken or offline. As mentioned in various places: this group is going away and this site is the place to view upcoming events. We also have a shiny new google group! Please sign up if you would like to receive announcements and the latest information about goings-on with the group. Tonight we will be hosting our monthly informal coffee talk at Cartel Coffee Lab. Come on by and hang out!

Upcoming Meetups and News

Last meeting I did a short presentation on shaders, and here is a post I did on creating a Whirlpool shader effect. Additionally, me and Drew created a game for Ludum Dare 36: Pyramid Scheme! Pyramid Scheme is a speech giving simulator fronted by a motivational speaker with a shady history and an unhinged mind. We made the game over 3 days and we literally submitted with TEN SECONDS to spare. I’d like to thank Drew for doing a lot of heavy lifting in terms of coding and writing. I focused a lot on the art and did a bit...

Monthly Meeting ToNIGHT! Come on by!

Hey all! Tonight is our awesome monthly meeting! We will be chatting about some of the latest goings on here in the Game Dev community. We may look at some Ludum Dare games from any sleep-deprived jammers who’ve juuuust finished their entries. But the main focus of tonight’s meeting will be shaders! http://www.meetup.com/Tucson-Game-Dev/events/232904718/#
