Aug. 2018 meeting recap and announcements
Thursday’s meeting was fun and busy!
Stuff we shared
We welcomed a new face, Ryan Cook, who showcased his 3D art skills. Go check out his portfolio! Personally, I particularly enjoyed the video of his nonviolent WWII-aftermath game.
I showed the latest development in my project, an inventory-tetris inspired puzzle game. It’s shaping up for release in Q1 2019, stay tuned (better yet, come to a meeting and check it out)!
Noel demoed his GDL Jam entry, Unlucky, a platformer gauntlet where the goal is to amass misfortune. It’s inspired the other devs in his studio to turn it into a full production! We’re looking forward to hearing about his progress in one of the next few meetings.
Announcements
First, we announced some changes to the meeting format. With the recent resurgence in our activity, there’s been so much to share at each meeting that we’ve been running pretty late! We’ll be aiming for a meeting end time around 9pm and making a conscious effort to keep each demo brief.
Second, we’ve procured a nonprofit booth at…
Tucson Comic Con!
That’s right, TGD will operate its very own booth in the gaming area of TCC 2018! We’re super excited, and preparations are already underway as we coordinate efforts and resources to be ready in time for the start of the convention on November 2. Chris will make a dedicated TCC post soon with more details.
As part of that preparation, we’re calling all game devs who want to see their game art in sticker form! We’d like to hand out “TGD sticker sheets” for free at the convention, and we’d like those sheets to showcase a variety of art from our members’ work. Whether you’ve been in TGD for years or have yet to attend a meeting, you’re invited to contribute! Details for the sticker sheet will also be part of Chris’ forthcoming TCC post.
One! of! us!… One! of! us!…
Whether you’re a graphic artist, designer, programmer, musician, or any other kind of game dev enthusiast, this is a great time to join TGD and get active in a thriving part of Tucson’s local game dev community. Subscribe to our mailing list, join us in Discord, come see cool stuff at our regular meetings (the first Thursday of each month) – at the very least, come look for us at Tucson Comic Con 2018!
Next meeting
Our next regularly scheduled meeting is at my house at 7pm on Thursday, Sept. 6. For directions, join the mailing list and watch for the invite there, or pop into our Discord server and look for the pinned message. Hope to see you soon!
