February Meeting: Nano Jam 2.0!
Our last meeting was super informative. Ted Alspach gave us a lot of great information about the development of his latest game: Maglev Metro. Check out his latest Kickstarter for Castles of Mad King Ludgwig as well (funded in 3 minutes?! :O ).
This month we have a really fun activity planned: Nano Jam 2! With the lack of in-person jams, we wanted to do something social, and also without requiring a huge time investment. So here we are with: Nano Jam 2.0!
The premise is simple: we’ll prototype a game during the meeting, then break off for some short play sessions of the games we’ve made! This is all focused on making something small and playable on a deadline. Break through that ‘designer’s block’ and ship it!
- The meeting will take place in our Discord February 3rd at 7pm AZ time.
- First we’ll have a quick presentation talking about the format and how to use Mural.
- Attendees will each create a game on their own Mural canvas. Everyone will have 45m to prototype their game.
- When time is up we’ll self-organize into small groups, and do three 15-minute playtest sessions. After each 15-minute session we’ll break up and re-organize into a new group.
- And that’s it!
This is our second nano jam. Our first was the Nano Paper Jam last year, where we created games using a bunch of office supplies in 1 hour. It was one of our funnest and most popular meetings. It was a challenge to figure out how to change the format for a virtual event but after a bit of discussion and testing I think we’ve found something super fun and engaging!
For those who might be curious what our test games from our session may look like, check these out:
We hope you’ll join us in our Discord. See you then!
